Octagon Dot designs

The iconic octagon shape is a standard in period floor patterns and remains a popular choice in kitchens and bathrooms today. When you fix the octagon in a formal grid, you must pair it with a smaller square tile known as a dot. This pairing creates a pattern commonly referred to as the 'octagon and dot'.

While many of our patterns feature this 'octagon and dot' structure, other designs, such as Cornwall, Harvard, and Brigitte, also incorporate octagonal tiles in unique and creative ways.

Victorian tile designs were prized for both their beauty and ease of maintenance. The tradition of colourful and decorative mosaic tiling remains to this day and has grown in popularity over the last few decades.

Edwardian designs tend to use an earthy colour palette of red, brown, coffee, cognac, black, grey and white. Designs in the Edwardian period were simpler than the decorative Victorian patterns, using larger tile sizes and basic border patterns.
