Heritage reproduction tiles

for Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian designs.

Our heritage reproduction tiles are the highest quality ceramic tiles we have found to recreate original Victorian floor tile designs. Manufactured by Winckelmans (since 1894), who are known for their fully vitrified unglazed porcelain stoneware, providing historical accuracy and modern durability.

Ideal for reproducing Victorian, Edwardian, and Georgian patterns, the variety of shapes, colours and encaustics, has also inspired us to expand our design catalogue with never-before-seen patterns and new colour combinations.

Our core range is classified as fully vitrified porcelain stoneware (with near-zero porosity). This highly fired dust-pressed ceramic resists wear and withstands moisture and staining. With a consistent colour throughout their 9 mm thickness, these tiles retain their rich colour and durability even after years of use.

Manufacturers of the past created Victorian geometric tiles with sharp, clean edges. This design feature made it possible to position the tiles closely to one another, allowing for tessellating patterns with very few gaps or visible grout lines.

The majority of tiles in our core range have the same straight edges, allowing you to assemble patterns authentically. These include small squares up to 70 mm, all triangles, and all rectangles (excluding 200 x 100 mm). Larger squares and polygons (from 100 mm upwards) have a slightly chamfered edge.

This chamfer, by design, reduces waste during production and minimises material loss during handling and transportation, while still upholding the traditional look and integrity of period style.

Tile shapes

Our collection features a variety of familiar traditional shapes, including squares, triangles, rectangles, an assortment of polygons, step treads, and (decorated) encaustic tiles, all fundamental components for building mosaic designs. Combining these tiles allows us to create intricate geometric patterns that faithfully replicate historic schemes or new custom designs.

Tile sizing and installation

Several factors influence the precise sizing of the tiles in our core range. The natural clay materials from which they are made are fired to extreme temperatures, causing some shrinkage. Also, atmospheric conditions before and during the firing process can impact their final dimensions.

Our sheeted service eliminates these minor discrepancies, as we employ specially designed jigs that accommodate slight variations in tile size, ensuring precise alignment and easy installation.
