Heritage reproduction encaustics
Our selection of European-style encaustics complement designs created with our core tile range. Their shape and thickness match the plain tiles, allowing for easy integration.
Artisans at Winckelmans create these encaustics using the dust-pressing technique, where coloured ceramic dust is compacted into custom moulds and fired into solid tiles. This method produces motifs with slightly softened, feathered edges, a characteristic charm of true encaustics.
The design extends deeply into the body of the tile, not merely printed or glazed on its surface, ensuring that the decorative pattern remains visible even as it endures wear over time.
The tiles are available in four sizes: 50 mm, 70 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm squares. Standard colours and patterns are generally available, while custom colour combinations can be produced to order, requiring longer lead times.
We can create new designs or match existing tiles to meet the needs of your project in any of the 32 colours.

Adding encaustic tiles to a geometric pattern introduces a rich historical element, enhancing authenticity and depth. These decorative tiles celebrate ornamentation, evoking a sense of heritage and craftsmanship. Their presence softens the geometry, creating a more characterful floor rooted in tradition.

Technical Specifications
These heritage-style encaustic tiles are hand-pressed using traditional methods, ensuring exceptional technical characteristics durability and versatility.
Made from sustainably sourced French and European clay, they are fully vitrified with near-zero porosity, making them very stain resistant and easy to maintain.
Fired at nearly 1,200°C, they are heat- and frost-resistant and are suitable for interior and exterior high-traffic residential, commercial, and industrial areas. With an absorption rate below 0.5%, they perform exceptionally well in damp environments such as swimming pools and professional kitchens.
The through-body colours and patterns extend throughout the tile’s thickness, ensuring long-lasting aesthetics. Due to traditional manufacturing methods, slight size variations may occur within industry standards (French CSTB and NF EN 14411).
