A border plays a crucial role in Victorian geometric tile design. It defines the space area and adds a sense of structure, drawing attention to the intricate central mosaic pattern.

This key design element balances and enhances hallways and pathways that showcase tile designs. It's incredible how something as simple as a border can elevate the look and feel of a space.

Borders are also crucial for the practical side of installing a mosaic tile scheme. They provide flexibility during installation, allowing for adjustments based on the area size, ensuring a perfect fit without throwing off the central design.

Customisation

Most of the designs in our catalogue are displayed with a border to complement the main pattern. However, you can pair each with an alternative of your choice if you want to get creative and customise.

Once you have selected a design, our team can easily illustrate any decisions to alter the appearance during your consultation. We can also change the width of a border by adding, removing or scaling up the size of the component tiles.

Adding additional rows of pencil edge or strip tiles is a great way to widen a border. It is often a way to maintain the symmetry of a design and its balance within the designated area.

Do I need a border?

The straightforward answer is yes. At the very least, using only a single-line border is practical, even in small areas. This approach will save your tiler significant time, as they won't have to cut unusual shapes to meet the perimeter. A simple border ensures the field pattern terminates cleanly on a whole or half tile, avoiding minor, awkward cuts at the edges.

Sheeted border tiles

All the decorative border and corner components are available sheeted. Border strips and the outermost border tile are always supplied loose.

The standard line or strip elements in the border are pre-moulded tiles measuring 150mm x 25mm. A wider border strip of 150mm x 50mm is also available.

The outer border or perimeter tiles are cut to size on-site by the tiler to allow for tolerance when laying the main design. The tile size most commonly used for these cuts is 150mm x 150mm square.
